Can anyone tell me about the medicine Seroquel and what it's used for?!

Question: Let me start off by saying, that I'm a worrier and the medicine I was placed on before was Zoloft for that. I tend to worry alot and that leads into depression for me. I'm not really familiar on this medicine and what it's used for that's why I'm asking. I don't want my body adjusted to all these kind of medicines out there. Can anyone tell me, maybe a Psychartist what are some great medicines for Anxiety/Depression? The reason why I got off of Zolofts because I slept on my problems and wake up with the same ones. So, I got off of the Zolofts immediately and I didn't feel I needed to be placed on "Crazy Medicine", but I know for a fact that I suffer with Anxiety/Depression because that's what I was diagnosed with.

It is essentially an antipsychotic and isn't the prime drug for depression as they can cause a worsening of if because of their tendency to cause sleepiness and fatigue - which is why they are prescribed in addition to antidepressants to help sleeping problems.
It can have unpleasant side effects.
If you are a worrier and this causes your depression then medication probably won't help as it isn't solving the problem just mitigating the effects.
Anxiety/Depression covers a wide range of 'sins' and can also be a misdiagnosis anyway.
Try some talking therapy or something like that (in the UK therapy is different from counselling) if possible or maybe counselling.
You obviously don't want to rely on medication so possibly change your evening routines or maybe change the way you view your problems - can you bounce them off someone?

Would be an excellent resource to try. It will give you lots of information about the drug.

I believe it is for schizophrenia treatment... It is an antipsychotic that can be used for bipolar disorder treatment as well I think.

seroquil is used for a large number of things I was on it for a year and a half. It generaly is used as a mood stabaliser but can be used to aid depression and anxiaty both as I also have been diognosed with these. the only problem I found with it is that I felt like a zombie for a couple of hours after I took that little orange pill

Seroquel is used for a few things..depending on the dose. I take it for sleep and anxiety (200mgs at night) but it is also used for depression..

I used to take Seroquel for bipolar disorder, anxiety and insomnia. I took it at night to sleep. However, it caused me to sleep-walk and to eat in my sleep, therefore I never really got better sleep from it.

I no longer take any pscyh meds because I am learning to trust God so that I don't have to worry so much. Consequently, I have had no major mood swings in the past two years! Praise God!

I'd like to add that I did not simply stop taking everything but with the help of my doctor, I slowly weaned off my meds over a three month period. I was also taking lithium and ativan.

Please be very careful with psych meds. They can be dangerous when not taken properly. If you want to change or stop your meds, please consult your doctor about it.
