Experience with drinking while taking Wellbutrin?!

Question: I'm currently on Lexapro, and have found that drinking is not much affected by this drug. However, I am going to have to introduce Wellbutrin, and am a bit more concerned as I've seen that this with alcohol can make seizures more likely. Does anybody have experience drinking with this medication? How did it affect you?

JR8898:

Rxlist has this to say about alcohol and Wellbutrin:

In postmarketing experience, there have been rare reports of adverse neuropsychiatric events or reduced alcohol tolerance in patients who were drinking alcohol during treatment with WELLBUTRIN. The consumption of alcohol during treatment with WELLBUTRIN should be minimized or avoided.

and:

WELLBUTRIN is contraindicated in patients undergoing abrupt discontinuation of alcohol or sedatives (including benzodiazepines).

For what it's worth, when I took Wellbutrin, I continued to drink (I'm just a moderate drinker), and nothing out of the ordinary happened. If you're a frat boy or a black-out drinker, that kind of thing, I'd suggest you stop it while taking ANY kind of drugs.

Good luck!

I mostly concur with BinkyM. I took Wellbutrin many years ago, and had no complications with my mild to moderate drinking in my 20's. Being on Lexapro as well complicates things a bit, and it's generally not a good idea to go past 2 drinks on these drugs, but, I don't anticipate you will have any major problems if you do. Best to keep it mellow when you're taking these drugs, suffering from depression, etc..
