Help!! Question about Lexapro.....?!

Question: Has anyone here ever tried discontinuing this medication?

This is probably the worst thing I've ever endured - the withdrawal symptoms are horrid!

if anyone here has ever been through this - I could sure use the moral support and any information you might have. Thanks SO VERY much!

You are not alone, my question to you is why are you stopping? Were there unpleasant side effects on the med? Are you switching to another med?
Typically you should gradually taper yourself off of any antidepressant and under a doctors supervision.
As a professional and from personal experience, I do not commonly see withdrawl symptoms from the SSRI group, in fact when I took Lexapro after trying almost all the SSRI's ( unpleasant side effects on all of them) I just stopped. Nothing happened, but this is not recommended.
I wish I had more information for you, but I dont know the whole story...what type of side effects/withdrawl symptoms are you having? You could do a search or go to the website for the drug itself for help in combating the symptoms. Without knowing them, all i can offer is above.
Thoughts be with you
Good luck and take care
you can email me through yahoo (see profile) for more personal stories if you wish, from both a personal point of view ( depression and panic disorder ) and a nursing perspective.

make sure you are doing it with the doctor's knowledge and that you didn't just stop cold turkey. You have to be weaned off.

I started the months sample pack my doctor gave me. I then found out I was preggo and had to quit. cold turkey. I had the most horrible side effects. Worse than when i took paxil. I have heard terrible stories from other people as well.

Ooh, I got off Lexapro a while back. My doctor said to just stop taking it and gave me some Prozac to take for a few days instead, because that has a much longer half-life, so it eases you off it more.

If the problem's just with Lexapro, and not with SSRI's in general, then I'd suggest switching to Celexa because it's really similar.

And if you want someone to talk to about it, you can definitely contact me......I'm not entirely sure how that works here, if there are Yahoo Answers Messages or whatever. If there aren't, then there should be, because it would be "yam" for short.
