Has anyone experienced sleep paralysis???!

Question: I have twice in my life and it is so scary. I could not move but I was coherant and I felt pressure and a presence on my chest. It was an evil presence. I don;t even know how long it lasted. One time after wards, I think I started to have an out of body experience, because I felt myself trying to float up and I was so scared. It took everything mentally to be able to bring myself down. Please anyone tell me if this sort of stuff has happend to them. Are these 2 related? What is the cause?

Yeah, when you sleep your body produces a natural paralyzing chemical to keep you from acting out your dreams. If you become consciously awake but physically asleep, you result in sleep paralysis. It's scary but ok, it's happened to me before. In fact, those people who meditate actually TRY to induce that state, because they are completely relaxed and can concentrate their mind without being disturbed by physical feedback from their body... some people recommend inducing a similar state in order to achieve 'astral projection' which is basically an out of body experience although it has not been scientifically proven whether or not they actually leave their bodies or not. The sleep paralysis state is completely harmless, and yes sleep paralysis and OBEs are related.

when you are sleeping and your body is in its REM (rapid eye movement) stage, most of your body is paralized. this is because during REM you tend to dream and the paralization prevents you from acting out your dreams and hurting yourself and others. Sometimes you wake up before this paralisis ends, discovering that you are unable to move for a few seconds. oftern people hallicinate during this time.

I get it every night. It's a side dish to all the nightmares I have.

Not fun.
