Is it possible for my child to inherit a certain genetic disorder....?!

Question: i haven't been to a geneticist and never had a good reason to see one. neither me or my partner have any common genetic disorders in our families that we know of.
but i'm always seeing television shows and hearing stories of children being born with, for example, dwarfism and other rare disorders when the parents didn't have the disorder in their families..

is there a good chance that my child could have any rare or common disorders?

i'm still pregnant so i can't have it examined or evaluated yet.

there are so many factors that go into disorders - teratogens in the environment you are exposed to every day, how well your body fights these, what # pregnancy you are on, and just fluke incidents of abnormal recessive genes being passed on by both parents without ever having family history of an illness know. even amniocentesis can't predict everything that could go wrong, but they are working on genetic markers for more disorders everyday so it can be detected. try not to have these negative thoughts while you are pregnant. God does not give us more than we can handle. this means, you are hopeful for the best, but prepared in a way for the worst. you will love the baby either way, so believe in your heart that it will be perfect. babies born with problems/defects are really miracles of their own - they are such happy children.

Well, approx. 4 million babies are born each year. About 3 to 4% will be born with a genetic disease or major birth defect.
Small chances.

Yes there is always that possibility

Panic disorder is a very real possibility..... no matter what it sounds like its a very hard disorder to deal with.

yes, there is that chance. thats called statistics. however, you shouldnt be too concerned about dwarfism and other things like that. they are very small chances if the parents are healthy. just take care of yoruself and love your child however he/she comes to you

there's always a chance. did u know atism has a chance of 1 in a 100

not as much as if you or your partner have it, but theres always the possibility

a good chance? No, its very unlikely but there is a SLIM chance that your child could be born with a genetic defect. Don't fret love, I'm sure your child will be healthy and happy. Don't get yourself worked up over such a rare thing.

Anything is possible, but they can look for markers that may indicate that

In your blood tests they will check for things that normally crop up (down syndrome, trisomy 18, etc.). If an abnormality appears they'll send you to get a amniocentesis. From there they can further determine if your baby will have one of the tested for disorders.

Genetics. That is whats in your DNA. You pass your DNA to your offspring. If you have a genetic problem there is a chance you will pass it on to your children.

yes, but to my knowledge the genetic trait must be in both parents genetic history, for example albinism can be inherited by a child whose parents don't have it but it is in their family's history.

Theres a chance any child, baby, person, anyone can develop rare or common disorders.
My mother has multiple sclerosis without a history of it in our family.
My brother and I have asthma without a history of it in our family.
My grandpa has a history of brain cancer in his family and he died of it. His daughter also got brain cancer before.

The point:
Theres no way to beat it, it's gonna happen if its meant to be.

stop worrying so much, and in about the 20th week you will have a screening looking for chromosomal disorders! relax, enjoy your pregnancy!

good luck and god bless

P,S,
you are going to love your child no matter what , so there is no need to worry so much !

You never know unless you've had an amnio done. Genetics is a very weird thing. I once worked with an Italian girl who had dark hair and dark eyes and olive skin. She was showing me photos one day of a family event and of course, her family all looked Italian except for her brother ... who had red hair. I remarked about it and she told me that some uncle way back in her family line was Irish with red hair. You just never know how the genetic chips are going to fall when you have a baby.

Why are you worrying about something that hasn't happened yet? Don't be thinking about the negative, be working on the positive with the new addition to the family.

Anything is possible, but your making yourself sick over an issue that isn't even available to you right now.

You will send yourself right into a deep depression if you don't stop your thinking that something is already wrong.

STOP IT.

Yep I have a genetic anomoly. The made that movie jumper after me.
