Has anyone tried or take the Rx Doxepin 25 mg instead of Ambien?!

Question: My Doc wants me to try this medication in replace of Ambien. I know it's for treament of depression but I'm sacred to try it! I'm allergic to over 15 medications with severe reactions and I really need feedback from someone who has tried it and either liked it or didn't and why? Thank You! Tina

doxepin has an off label use of treating insomnia [long term]
however, unless you are having trouble with Ambien
I would not switch unless you have depression AND insomnia
why does your doctor want to switch you?
are you showing signs of dependency?

ooh ok if you have fibromyalgia then Doxepin is a better choice than Ambien, Ambien is intended for short term use only. Doxepin will promote sleep and has much less potential for dependence. Also it helps with chronic pain and will help with the "phobic attacks" because they are a result of anxiety [another off label use for Doxepin, treats anxiety] and if you dont have phobic attacks, it will not hurt you.

l have been taking doxepin for 3 years now, and it has worked wonders for me, but before l was put on doxepin l had to try other medications until we found the right one for me. lt has helped my depression plus it does help you sleep aswell, but its all trial and error.

Doxepin made me feel drunk and groggy the next day. Much prefer Ambien.
