Why do people have a problem with Epilepsy and mental health problems?!

Question: naturally not all....I guess

Answers: naturally not all....I guess

Seizures look scary.
People don't know what to do.
They don't understand what is happening during a seizure, why the person has fallen, or wet their pants, or is shaking, or appears to be passed out.
What is more people don't understand that when you come out of it you can feel disoriented. They think you may be crazy, or very sick, and they don't know if it is something that they can "catch" from being around you. It doesn't make sense to them that you would not remember what happened, or that you have difficulty talking and responding to their questions.

In people without epilepsy, these types of symptoms might be seen in a person who has mental health problems, especially the not remembering, the confusion, difficulty speaking. People unfortunately, equate a jerking body to mean that the person's mind isn't all there.

If you have Epilepsy, you can spot where ignorance has mis-interpreted the symptoms....and mis-interpreted the cause for this "electrical problem" based in the brain. Some people even think that because it's in the brain, it must be a mental health problem. NOT SO.

And so, people with Epilepsy get frustrated about being misunderstood. They feel hurt by people who pull away and are afraid to come near or to be a friend. These kinds of feelings are something a Therapist would help anyone with.

No, it isn't fair. We all need to be understood and trusted, and we all need friends to stand by us when the going gets tough. And we need a friend who will listen.

Abnormalities in the brain chemistry, genetic heritadge, stress, bad hit to the head, nutrition problems, drug abuse, even mental state altering medication like antidepressants can cause other mental problems at normal dosage.

Good question. I think it may be because many people are ignorant and don't understand that people with epilepsy or mental disorders can't control their symptoms because they have a legitimate condition and are not doing it for attention.
People would rather dismiss others as "crazy" without bothering to understand why the person is acting this way.

because there are no simple answers and so many ppl are effectedby these conditions. With mental illness to ppl whom dont have it or dont know of ppl that have they dont have understanding. Also sometimes ppl with mental illness can take alcohol and drugs thinking that they are helping themselves when in fact they are not...so the socially other ppl think it is the alcohol or drugs doing it and they think that the person should just stop. Not all ppl understand what it is like to suffer from either epilepsy or mental health issues.....And with both illnesses ppl dont tend to get all huggy and feel sorry for the sufferer....mental illness mainly on this one
