Suffering from memory loss?!

Question: I'm a university engineering student.
During semester I study very hard but when i feel that I can no longer remember things for a long time. For example, I study a certain course very well during the first part of the semester but when it comes to exam time I feel that I can no longer remember the things. Its very frustrating as I have a lot to study and dont have the time to keep revising things over and over.

I didnt have such a problem when I was in high school.
Also sometimes I know that I know a certain thing, (eg: a mathematical equation) in my head by I just cant recall it. I feel that my brain does store everything in it but its like a messed up library.

Can you please advise me on what I need to do?

I think this is a problem that a lot of us have. I would suggest that when you study new material you take some time to revisit the old stuff every now and again so that you can remeber it easier. Also, studying before you go to be (I hear) can increase your chances of you remembering it. I find that when I study I make flash cards and I'll write the answers in different places on each card to help me remember. Yes, the location of where the answer is written helps me remeber things. I've heard (although I haven't tried this myself) that associating things with a smell can help you remember things. Apparantly smell is very strongly linked to memory.

There are also memory games and puzzles you can do to exercise your memory. There's the one with the cards where you flip them over to make matches...there's also ones where you have to memorize lists or have a certain amount of time to look at a picture...then remember things about that picture, etc. Try looking up a few of those.
