Is a suicide attempt on my medical record?!

Question: When I was 17 I accidentally took too much heart medication, and my mom freaked, called an ambulance (not the police) and told them I accidentally took too many pills. I was questioned and they asked if it was a suicde attempt, my mom thought it was but I kept trying to say it wasn't . Went to the hospital, they gave me charcol to get the medicine out of my system, but I was fine. I was questioned for 3 days about being depressed, if I was suicidal etc etc, and wasn't allowed to leave the hospital. My mom tried to get me out but they threatened her and said they could get her fired from her job if she tried to get me out. My sister got me out by saying I would go to a private psychologist if they let me out. If she hadn't done that I would have been kept there in the psych ward for 2 weeks. All I want to know is if this will be on my medical record, I am applying for jobs that will disqualify for me for having a "suicide attempt" on my medical records. Thanks for any help.

Yes, the incident is on your medical records. However, it can not be listed as a suicide attempt unless it was proven, and even if it was admitted that it was suicide attempt, those are mental health records (as well as your psych ward time). AND, your medical records are absolutely NOT available for someone hiring you to see. In fact, NO one can see them without your permission (except for parents and those who already have been treating you). You should not worry about it at all.

Yes it's on your medical record for ever.

Only if you were put on suicide watch it would be, otherwise no

if it truly wasa suicide attempt then yes but its private no information is to be realsed from that record , it can becoem so sealed that even if soemthing bad happened to you and teh police neede to see a medical record they may never get the opportunity to. Its private stuff and jobs arn't even supposed to be looking into that at all and they can't anyways! Only your past job perfomances and stuff. Medical records r to remain private that is the law! If u r suicidal plz get help!

Its not on like a public record though, I have many suicide attempts on my record and i have had no problems getting jobs.

Your medical record will reflect what happened at the hospital. The record will also say whatever the psychologist dictated.

Hope this helps! ?

Go and ask to see your records and/or your doctor to discuss this. You may need their help in clarifying the situation for the future. Make sure you understand what is held on record and how much will be made available to a potential employer should they ask. Those are your private records and you would have to give permission for them to be accessed. Find out what is actually there. Challenge it if you feel you are right to do so.

Good luck!

yes it will probably be on you medical record but it may have come up as not sure if it really was. what i would do is explain it beforehand, so they don't accuse you of trying to "cover it up". GOOD LUCK!!!
