Is watching tv an addiction?!

Question: So I have a question my girlfriend watches 6-10 hours of tv a day, i'm trying to compare it to my old video game habit which use to be 6-20 hours a day if not longer. Would anyone consider watching that much tv a day a small or slight addiction?

Well, almost anything involving looking at a screen, especially TV, puts your brain into alpha waves, or a relaxed state similar to hypnosis (a kind of middle ground between passive thinking and being asleep). Then, stimulation from TV and video games (i.e. a burst of adrenaline caused by a bloody scene or a really funny joke) actually is addictive, and can increase the state of alpha wave hypnosis. So yes, it is a kind of addiction.

A good way to break this is to set a very loud timer. The loud sound inturrupts the brain's passive state while the time set allows you to do a reasonable amount of the thing you most enjoy doing;]

hope that helped!

People who watch TV usually dont have much fun and like seeing other people have fun

6-10 hours a day is a tremendous addiction

i like to think of it like this
8 hours to sleep 1/3 of a day
8 hours for Job/School 1/3 of a day
that means you only have 8 hours left of free time, would you rather spend all of it watching television

Is can absolutely become an addiction. That is a lot of TV watching day after day. Depends on the person who is watching TV. When it interferes with other activities, it is a problem.
