Do I have OCD?!

Question: Some examples of the things I do.

I always count things, I sometimes have to keep things squared from the edge of a table, or arrange things.

I always make squares or triangles with my finger, drawing them on things or shapes, over and over again. Sometimes I have to feel the edge of a key on my keyboard I run my finger round it in and wont stop until ive done it perfectly.

Without realising I grind my teeth in triangle motions or squares , throughout the day..

If I go shopping I lock the car. I come back to it worried that I forgot to lock it. I check it, its locked. I walk off, then think was it locked? And check it again.

I can deal with the above, but this is what bothers me:

I always worry about hurting people, say I was using a large kitchen knife or something I'll see thoughts of me hurting someone - usually a loved one.

I am not a doctor, but I would say you do.

I have been diagnosised with OCD so this from personal experience.

People with OCD may be plagued by persistent, unwelcome thoughts or images, or by the urgent need to engage in certain rituals. The ritual part is what you have. Your need to make squares is your personal habit and your unwanted image is of hurting people.

You need to find a way to get psychiatric help. I thought I was perfectly fine as well, but after consulting and medication I found that my life before treatment was horrific. I was nervous all the time, always stressed out, and the ritual I performed interfered with my daily life.

Please go to someone for help. OCD is a real disorder, not something people should make fun of like on Munk.

yes...those are definitely signs of ocd.

i am exactly like you
but i think everyone has their own little OCD
& yes, i think that all of that is OCD
but no biggie

yes

You definitely have a psychological issue. Nothing that out of the ordinary.

I think you need to talk to a professional on this one.

I tried reading your entire question but I have ADD

it could be worse...

not sure what ocd is, but see a doctor.

If you truly believe that you might have some type of OCD (Obsession Compulsive Disorder), I recommend you go to a doctor or a professional and get checked.

Those first examples are definately OCD but the last one... I think you need to see a doctor for that one.

It's a possibility.....

Please talk to a mental health professional.

Yes I would say this is ocd.. if youre young youll probably stop doing these things as you get older.. i did similar things when i was about 12-16 but eventually stopped.. just tell yourself your not going back to the car, or that you cant touch the corner of the keyboard and eventually youll stop. its very hard but it can become mentally overwhelming !

The counting leads me to believe that it's OCD, however, wanting to hurt someone isn't. I would talk to someone like a therapist for this. Wanting to hurt others or yourself isn't good. I wish you the best.

Sounds like, you may have OCD with a combination of a border line personality disorder...not sure, i'm no doctor. I am bi-polar though and I know it is very important to see someone the second you notice things like this. See a therapist so you can talk things out and figure the root and if necessary take meds...phsyciatrists prescribe meds first and talk later.

Reading your description was like reading about myself. I don't have the exact same routines - with me it's intersecting lines, not triangles. Yes, this is OCD, based on what you describe. Your fear of hurting someone comes from INSIDE yourself. Do you perceive yourself as bad? Morally bad? A curse on humanity? You aren't - but somehow, somewhere, probably as a child, you learned that you are. This is what you will have to deal with, and therapy is an excellent place to start. Good luck!!

this sounds like OCD, you should make an appontment with your doctor.
i have OCD and i do the counting and checking. also the bad thoughts, you worry about hurting people, this is OCD making you think these thoughts. people who don't have OCD will not understand. you are not a bad person because you have these thoughts as they are only thoughts. get the help you need. all the best.

Yes, those are signs. I have never felt paranoid about hurting people but this is totally normal. I always check things five million times, do things in patterns, and count everything. It's extremely annoying but I can deal with it just like you say you can. However, those feelings are compulsions whereas, the paranoia of hurting others, is more of an obsession. You can get help but if you choose not to do so, try to tell yourself over and over again that it's all in your head. Trust me, it's extremely difficult and you get very anxious but it helps.
