Why does Hydrocodone make me cry?!

Question: I know this is a wierd question but. Whenever I have a bad headache or cramps my dad gives me Hydrocodone pills. He has them because of back surgery he recently had. He says they're 500mg so I can only take 1/2 of 1 of I will feel nauseated. But after I take one I get extremely emotional and I sometimes cry because of little things. Like a sad show on tv, or something I read in the newspaper, or even while me and my husband are having a good conversation. Has this happened to you before? Why do they cause me to be so emotional?

Hydrocodone is a generic form of Vicodin, a somewhat strong and very addictive painkiller, it tends to relax you and make you somewhat tired along with relieving the pain, so this may be why you get emotional. Sometime when your body and/or mind is tired you tend to get weepy. Also, I would invest in some Midol or extra strength tylenol, not take something that strong for cramps. There is a reason you need a prescription for it.

it is your hormones causing the tears, not the drug

First, you shouldn't be taking other peoples' medication. Also, the 500mg part is actually 500mg of acetaminophen (AKA Tylenol). A common prescription is written as 5/500, for example, which means 5 mg of hydrocodone and 500 mg of acetaminophen. A side effect of this drug can be mood changes, and it sounds like it might not be the best choice for you. If you are experiencing severe pain you should talk with your doctor.
