Why pretend? Long distance relationships are a time honored tradition. In this day and age, there are many ways to communicate with your friend. If her not answering you is a problem, ask someone else... Don't just make up an answer and attribute it to her!

Imaginary friends are okay for young children and those stranded on deserted islands, not for healthy adults. This is a good time to meet new friends. Don't feel bad about making new friends. It doesn't mean you are abandoning her. Think of them as new treasures you can share with your best friend, and all of you can enjoy knowing each other.

If you have difficulty breaking this habit, talk to a shrink or your primary care doc.

I think this is normal, only if your friend hasn't been gone away from you a long time. You will adjust to her not being there. Besides, you have phone and internet and their is always times to visit!

Surrounding yourself with a support group is healthy. If that group is no longer available; perhaps you should consider developing a new one.

If this behavior is annoying you; stop it. Journal.

Sounds like some separation anxiety or something close. Are you having actual conversations with her, can you actually see her (you may be hallucinating...?) I would make an appt with your shrink (if you have one, if not your PCP) asap and try to get some help. It's definitely not fine and not healthy. All the best! xoxo
