What alternative medicine works as an antibiotic, if any?!

Question:

What alternative medicine works as an antibiotic, if any?

Many times we know that we have some sort of infection that requires an antibiotic. However, many of those times the doctor does not want to give an antibiotic--and we've wound up in the emergency room with ruptured eardrums, etc., because we did not get the antibiotic. Is there any alternative that actually kills infections?

I never expected all of these answers--and I really didn't expect to get so many DIFFERENT answers. All 10 of you, so far, has received a thumbs up from me for your time and work--but I won't be sure which is the best answer without some research. Today I need to take my daughter to the ER, so it may not be 'till tomorrow. Thanks for your patience :)

Answers:

First of all, you need to determine if what you have is viral or bacterial. Many times those doctors know what they're talking about...that's how they got those letters after their names. A basic rule of thumb is: if you check out your phlegm (pronounced flem) and it's greenish, then you have a viral infection. No amount of antibiotic will help you unless you get a secondary infection and it's bacterial. Your doctor won't prescribe antibiotics if you don't have a bacterial infection for one simple reason: if you use it when you don't need it, your body will build up a tolerance to it and then will not respond to it when you need it to. Ever heard of the superbugs? Look it up. These are the bugs that we pick up that will not be cured by antibiotics (bacterial or not) because they've figured us out and created defenses against our weapons of destruction. http://biomedsci.cornell.edu/graduate_sc...
If your phlegm appears yellow, then you have a bacterial infection. There is a product called Echinamide. You can get it at the health food stores...there is a regular formula for bacterial infections and a viral formula. Sold for adults or children, this will help get rid of what ails you.
