In hypnosis; the hypnotist puts the logical (conscious mind) to sleep, and talks to the subconscious mind directly; and uses inductive reasoning to help the subconscious mind reach conclusions the hypnotist tells the subconscious mind to reach.
Then when the conscious mind awakens, and the hypnotist speaks the code word or does the trigger such as touching his tie, etc, the subconscious mind takes over and feels compelled to carry out the post hypnotic suggestion.
