Question:
I may have been exposed to Salmonella - is there any natural remedy I can try?
I showed up late to my friends birthday barbeque and long story short I ate a piece of bread dipped in a a marinade that had been used for chicken. I am scheduled to take an important business trip tomorrow, and I am starting to feel funky. Barbeque was about 12 hours ago. Is there anything I can do to prevent a seriously bad infection?
Answers:
It's too late for prevention I'm afraid - you just have to go for damage control. Salmonella can cause anything from diarrhea and stomach upsets that last a couple of hours to much more serious stuff that will require antibiotics or even more serious intervention.
If you're just off with a bad stomach then make sure you drink lots of liquid and stay close to a toilet. You can try chamomille tea to ease things but frankly speaking there are no good natural remedies but just letting your body get rid of it (and that may include a fever, that raises your body temperature in an attempt to get rid of bacteria).
With a bit of luck you'll be all over it by morning. Just don't take anything that might stop your diarrhea as that would only make matters much worse for you.
