Acupuncture presentation?!
Question:
Acupuncture presentation?
I am doing a presentation on acupuncture to my psychology class. I have to do some kind of demo, what should I do and no, I can't poke people! I was thinking doing acupressure points instead, what do you think I could do?
Answers:
It rather depends on the objective of your presentation. There are some philosophic similarities between acupressure and acupuncture, but there are differences as well. Acupressure is based on the philosophy that a tight or spasmed muscle cannot resist a greater pressure being placed on key muscles or triggerpoints. Acupuncture is based on stimulating energy flow along the meridians. You could make the argument that relieving a tight muscle or trigger point could increase energy flow along the meridians, but it is not a direct correlation.
However, acupressure does work. If you have time, buy the book, "Acupressure's Potent Points: a Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments" by Michael Reed Gach. It is an excellent illustrated manual on the topic and explains the underlying theory behind why it works.
