Could stem cells be used to fix a astigmatism?!
Question:
Could stem cells be used to fix a astigmatism?
i was thinking like, the part of the eye that sends the image to the brain. if that muscle, or whatever it is, was weak or not working properly, would it be possible that stem cells might "fix" or improve it?
Answers:
The axons of the ganglion cells that make up the optical nerve (the part of the eye that sends the image to the brain) has nothing to do with astigmatism. Astigmatism is caused by a non-spherical cornea (the primary refractive surface of the eyeball). So, im pretty sure stem cells couldn't help with astigmatism in the manner you're speaking. Maybe it could be used to make the cornea spherical again.
