The Thyroid is difficult to sort out. The doctor has prescribed your pills for your ailment , why would you want to give them up? Look , some people have to take tablets all their lives , as this could save or extend their lives , I have the feeling that you have been talking to someone trying to influence you in a negative way. Please stay with them as the doctor prescribed , even long term.
Most drugs are tested for about 6 weeks. Long term studies are pretty much non-existent. Get a consult with a professional Homeopath or Naturopath. There are other less toxic treatments that can dramatically reduce the amount of drugs you need to take or cure the cause so that you don't have to take something for the rest of your life. You owe it to yourself to find out.
if you can afford it you could consult a naturopath, homeopathist or acupuncturist. Each of these will look at your health overall. Try to get a recommendation from someone you know who has used one of these and if money is an issue (which it probably is if yr 16) ask if they have concessions.
Well get used to it because you need to take them. You have an overactive thyroid which needs to be controlled. Taking 10 tablets a day is hardly a huge inconvenience. You don't say what you have been prescribed so I can't tell you anything about them.
You are receiving the right medication for your condition and there will be no lasting damage from any side effects. You will come through ok.
Alot of tablets has been known to cause kidney stones
your doctor knows best for you,
I think you're right to question this, especially given that you are only sixteen. I am of the opinion that any medication, particularly if taken for a long period of time, can potentially be harmful.
There are numerous things that may have an effect on thyroid function, such as chlorine in tap water. If it were me, I would look into natural remedies that may be helpful or even visit a naturopath to discuss the possibilities. They won't tell you to stop taking your medication as that's your decision, of course, but just suggest things that might help.
Doctors can't possibly know the long-term effects of every drug on the market, and things affect people differently.
