Is there a natural vitaman that helps with sleep?!

Question: Is there a natural vitaman that helps with sleep?
I have bad paranoia so I keep a bright lamp and a tv (low volume) so i dont get that deep sleep that I need. I also suffer from depression and anxiety and I'm sure the no sleep thing doesn't help. Any natural supplements that help? Or atleast make me tired?

In the first place I can't understand the lamp thing. Your internal clock needs to know it's night time so darkness is what you need to sleep. You can take "Melatonin" which is natural, no chemicals. The tv low might help but your subconscious mind might be listening to whats going on. When I toss & turn I just take a tablespoon of peanut butter. It helps me. of course everyone is different. mo...

Hi Liv. If you are sleeping with a light on, your body (pineal gland in the brain) will not be producing adequate amounts of Melatonin. Melatonin is needed for optimal sleep. Therefore, you may find it helpful to supplement with Melatonin before bedtime.

Start with 1 mg (milligram) of Melatonin one hour before bedtime. Often this is enough. If this is not working (try it for several days), then increase to 2 milligrams. Rarely, is more than 3 milligrams needed. But, most people do well with 1 milligram.

The most common "side effect" of Melatonin supplements is an increase in dreaming.

Best wishes and good luck.

p.s. there are differences in the quality of Melatonin supplements. Do not use the cheap ones at Walmart, Costco, etc. Look for a quality product at your local health food store and look for one with 1 milligram size pills. Do not let a salesperson talk you into 3 mg or 5 mg size pills (the "More is better" belief) because it isn't.

Vitamin B6 is involved in forming body proteins and structural compounds, nervous system chemical transmitters, prostaglandins and red blood cells. Vitamin B6 also has a critical role in proper immune function and hormone balancing. B6 aids our body in the production of serotonin, and serotonin helps to produce melatonin, a necessary hormone for sleep. Signs of deficiency include depression, anemia, impaired nerve function, convulsions, eczema and glucose intolerance. Proper levels of this vitamin can assist those with insomnia to sleep better according to the Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements. Supplements of 50 to 100 mg per day can help relieve many of these symptoms. Foods sources of B6 include brewer's yeast, brown rice, royal jelly, lentils, whole grains, nuts, alfalfa sprouts, tuna, bananas, potatoes, chicken, beef, lamb, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, salmon and halibut.
