The reason why some meds say that they should not be taken by people under 18 or under 12 is either because the dosis is designed for only a certain age group---or, because it might have opposite effects of those younger than the age stipulated. So you could get harmed---or, it could be totally ineffective, not working for your symptoms.....

If it's not recommended for people under 18, that means it hasn't been tested on people under 18. The drug company then has to say it's not recommended for anyone under 18 in order to cover their behinds.

What makes a drug safe, or not, often depends on body weight. If you're close to 18, you're about the same size you'll be when you're 18. There's no significant physical difference. However, if you're eight years old, there certainly is. Even if you're 12 or 13, there might be.

Furthermore, age limit or no, you shouldn't take any prescription drug unless it's prescribed for you. To determine if a prescription drug is safe for you, a doctor has to review your condition, any other conditions you may have, and any other medications you may be taking. Without that, you may end up taking something that harms you.
