concerta.. asthma? please help!!?!

Question: Concerta.. asthma? please help!!?
i'm a 14 year old girl who play's on her high school basketball team.
I pretty much have practice every day. (you know how high school is..)
I started concerta about a month ago, on thanksgiving to be exact. (which was a Thursday) & i had basketball practice Saturday morning. we started out with karaoke a couple times up and down the floor, and then a few sprints up & down the floor. I am used to that by now. But when we were finished with that, i was sweating really badly, and really out of breath. I did not think much of it, because we had been off for 2 days. Once we got into our regular practice, I was sweating even worse, and my throat/chest felt like it was on fire, I was really dizzy, and felt like I was going to pass out. so I went over to my coach and told him I had to call my parents. I got picked up, & when we got home my mom called my doctor & they had me come in right away. I told my doctor all that had happened, & was diagnosed with sports induced asthma. I was given an inhaler and told to use it before my practices and games, (which I have been doing) and it has not helped at all. :(
I had practice Saturday and that might have been the worst of all. I had to take myself out of practice a couple times, my chest hurt so bad, & I couldn’t get air in. I started to cry, but I didn’t notice until my teammate asked me if I was ok…. I wanted to puke, but I couldn’t. & when we were chasing after ball's down the court (for long lay up's) I couldn’t catch up to the ball & when I slowed down running my legs almost collapsed under me. I never had ANY problems like this until I started concerta… (I'm wondering if the medication has anything to do with it…..)
I really don’t know what to do, because I don't want to keep practicing like this. :(
and if I try and tell my mom, she will just tell me to use more of my inhaler, or that I'm supposed to feel like that, "it's normal". please help, I don’t know what to do… :(

Answers:

as someone who has lived with asthma, even through military and sports, i would talk yto your doctor and let him know when it started. that should have been brought up on the last visit. they are suposed to ask if you have started any new medication. otherwise you can practice counting breaths. most of the problems with asthma is that your body can not get enough air so on reflex you start drawing shorter but more breaths. this while useful to healthy people is bad for asthma. try drawing in breaths and time it with your foot steps. 2-3 breaths in and then the same back out. this way your keeping the same amount of air regardless of activity. also if you have the ability to get coffee, i know it sounds weird, it will help to open the airways and calm an asthma attack.
