Should a prescription of Celebrex be replaced by Aleve in the interest of cost?!

Question: Should a prescription of Celebrex be replaced by Aleve in the interest of cost!?
Answers:
Talk with your doctor 1st but I'd say, GO FOR IT! They are NOTHING ALIKE! If your condition is serious enough to need Celebrex then Aleve will not do you any good!. BUT! If it isn't then go for it!

I have very serious chronic deteriorating bone & joint disease in both knees, & very severe arthritis in both the cervical & lumbar sections of my back!.!.!. My spine has literally eaten away & disintegrated!. I'm forced to get injections into both knees more often than most people would ever be allowed too!. I also have to go & be put to sleep about every 3 weeks at least, where I'm then injected with different drugs in the cervical, lumbar or knees to try & keep the pain down to a functional level!. NOT! But, I am able to rest for a while afterwards!.!.!. ;~)!. Every so often they go in & try to burn the nerves, & at times to do nerve blocks but they never really work on me!.

I'm also on several different anti-inflammatory drugs, of which Celebrex is one that I use along with a couple of others!. Again, normally doctors would never prescribe more than one but mine is so bad that just one doesn't suffice, they also switch me around after so many month!. I use it at times in conjunction with several other ones!.

Then I also use different things along with these types of drugs such as Flexeril, Baclofin, etc!., and then there's the drastically strong pain meds such as Oxycontin, Percocet & Vicodin!. But I drive the docs crazy because I refuse to take the pain meds the way I'm supposed to! I refuse to feel like a zombie! I'd rather be in pain some!

They're always looking for some new type of drug hoping it will be some "miracle" for me!. I've already had so many surgeries, & I'm waiting now to have a total knee replacement on my right knee but I'm chronically anemic!.!.!. My iron has dropped to a "1", yes a ONE, & I've been having to go thru lots of Iron Infusions, so of course, my surgery's been put on hold!. They say I'm bleeding inside, but after being tested from top to bottom!.!.!. & I mean everywhere, they can't find out where it's coming from, but my Iron & blood count refuses to go up even with the infusions!.

If your condition will allow you to function with just Aleve, along with some moist heat then I say stay the heck away from drugs like Celebrex! There can be way too many side effects from them, & if you pay for your meds the cost is ridiculously too much! But, if you're not aware of it, I know ways that the manufacturer of it, & most other drugs, will help you get them at a big discount, & according to your income they can even be FREE! I'd be happy to let you know more about this!.

I completely agree with the poster that said "anyone qualified to give an opinion on this wouldn't, without additional knowledge of your specific situation"!.

Canam's post is simply inaccurate and irrisponsible!. No, these drugs are not necessarily interchangeable!. And yes, drug companies have patents on drugs like Celebrex, which might even be for 20-25 years!. But the company applies for the patents as soon as they isolate a molecule that has any potential value to them!. At which point, they have sometimes 10-15 years of additional research and testing ahead of them before they can actually sell it!. And the chance of that drug actually making it to market is like 10,000 to 1!. So they actually spend billions on studying and testing thousands of drugs each year that never make it to market!. The one that does must be able to pay for all of them!. That's why the company hopefully has about 10 years left on the patent!. Without it, we simply wouldn't have much research and we wouldn't have new drugs!. Complain about the cost all you want, but only the newest drugs of the last 10-15 years are still on patent, thus still expensive!. All the drugs of your parents' generation are dirt cheap!. All of the high priced drugs we complain about will be dirt cheap for our children!. It's how this all works!.

And one last statement about Canam's inaccuracy!. Aleve is not ibuprofen, it is naproxen!. But yes, you could ask for a prescription of naproxen if that's cheaper!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not without your doctor's okay, no!.
They are both NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), but they aren't necessarily the same effect or potency!.
According to Wiki, it's not available in the U!.S!. as a generic (because of Pfizer's control on it), but it's available "in other countries, including India and the Philippines, it is legally available as a generic under the brand names Cobix, Celcoxx, and others"!.

If you are taking celebrex for pain, and aleve works just as good then why not switch!? It is our congress who allows the drug companies to have patents on these meds for so many years before a generic can be sold!. congress sold us out to the drug company lobbiests!. You can always check webmd!.com for medications!. Aleve comes in 200mg!. tabs!. Aleve is Ibuprophen and and you could get a script from your doctor for ibuprophen (it comes in 400, 600, and 800mg), and it would be cheaper than buying OTC aleve!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Really, anybody who's qualified to answer this question probably wouldn't give you an answer without knowing more about your specific circumstances!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
