If you are concerned about the negative effects of smoke on the lungs you can purchase a vaporizer, and marijuana smoke has shown to prevent lung cancer by killing and removing dead cells.
Personally, I would get licensed for med marijuana just because it would be sweet to have your own stash.
I know people that have medical marijuana. I would stick with regular pain meds. It is true that pain meds can be addictive too but they are totally more chic. ha ha. Seriously. Smoking weed can give you maaaajor lung problems because weed is more harsh on the lungs than cigarettes. It also smells bad. And it gives you red eyes. And makes you look like a hippie. And kills brain cells. I think traditional pain meds can damage your liver with prolonged use, but thats better than smelling like a skunk and having lung cancer. Plus, I don't know about all the united states, but the federal govt generally frowns upon medical marijuana so it is just safer to be with whatever your doctor will prescribe. Oh yah, I have heard that marijuana can cause depression, hallucinations, and anxiety. I smoked weed before and I felt like it was a horrible horrible taxi ride where I couldn't get out and I just had to wait until it was over... not fun. But I have heard that different "strains" may reduce the level of anxiety. But I would stay away from weed. just say no! ; )
If you havn't smoked it before I wouldn't recoment starting just because of a little pain. Marijunana does alot more for you then just limit pain but the same goes for pain meds in high dosage. If you have insurance you can get your pain meds paid for but I dont think any insurance will pay for medicinal marijunana.
