Is there a herbal remedy for M.E?!

Question: I've had M.E for 4 and a half years now. I can't do anything, even taking a shower uses every scrap of energy I have. I really need help but apart from anti-depressants, (NO WAY!) there doesn't seem to be any help out there.

I was diagnosed with CFS 11 years ago and received no help from anyone at that time. I've had to learn to combat it my own way.

Just recently, I found a wonderful woman's vitamin called ProFema. It's about $30 (US) for a month's supply, but I'm no longer having to take evening naps. I can now enjoy the evening with my kids. The heavy fog of CFS is now gone, but if I forget to take the vitamins, it comes back quickly. I also use FemCream - a progesterone cream for peri-menopause. If you have CFS, you probably need the cream as it helps with your monthly cycle wonderfully! Both products are made by Pure Essence Labs. I've tried other products, but this is the one where I have had the most effective results, giving me back something of a life again. Before I found these vitamins, I had begun to take St. John's Wort. I'm finishing off the bottle before I see if I need to continue that also, but if I have to use and take all three products, then it is worth it to have my life back.

No.

nope sorry

Hi. I sat here for several minutes, trying to figure out what M.E. stands for, but couldn't think of anything, even taking fatigue into account as one of the symptoms. I'm actually very into herbal remedies, so if you can edit your answer to add what M.E. stands for, I can try to help. :-)

Nope. Actually, herbal tea is sort of a relaxer. You should have alot of vitamin C in your diet, and I guess you can afford to have a little extra caffeine earlier in the day. Get lots of sleep. Oh, and always make sure that you eat enough (the nutritious stuff)!
Hope this helps <3

a huge spoon of honey gives you a sudden rush of energy and wont do you any harm

Try an elimination diet. Eat nothing but raw fruits and vegetables and juices for two weeks, and see if your symptoms improve.

Herbal remedy? I don't think so but I truly believe that myalgic encephalomyelitis is caused by a nutritional deficiency.

The first thing I would ask is, how much water do you drink and then ask you to compare that to how much of other beverages you drink.

For years I had a problem with recurring kidney stones. One of the things that is suppose to help prevent kidney stones is drinking more water. I began doing that and it helped but I still got kidney stones. Not as often but still ... I got 'em. It wasn't until I stopped drinking soft drinks and coffee [anything with caffeine] that I really stopped getting kidney stones.

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj believes that a lot of diseases are caused by allowing our bodies to become dehydrated and he's written books about this theory. While it isn't proven, I suggest you give it a try. What do you have to lose?

Try drinking half your weight in ounces of water everyday. Sounds too simple??? Yes, I think so too. Interestingly enough this suggestion has evolved to include the addition of salt to the water. According to http://www.saltinstitute.org/28.html "Salt is essential not only to life, but to good health. It's always been that way. The body's salt/water ratio is critical to metabolism. Human blood contains 0.9% salt (sodium chloride) -- the same concentration as found in United States Pharmacopeia (USP) sodium chloride irrigant commonly used to cleanse wounds. Salt maintains the electrolyte balance inside and outside of cells. Routine physical examinations measure blood sodium for clues to personal health. Most of our salt comes from foods, some from water."

Refined table salt is NOT the best choice. Use instead a good sea salt or Himalayan Crystal Salt. [see first 3 links below] Refined salt contains anti-caking agents and possibly preservatives. Also it may be lacking in the trace elements which could be what your body really needs coupled with proper hydration. Remember only water and salt control proper hydration. The first thing they do in an ambulance or the hospital is hook you up to an IV of saline solution. Saline solution is a solution of sodium chloride, or salt, in sterile water. Normal saline solution is 0.9% sodium chloride...

Add 1 teaspoon of one of the above salts to 1 gallon of water. Drink half your body weight in ounces per day. Drink it in 6 doses starting the first as soon as you get up. Each dose should be consumed a half hour before eating and 2 to 2.5 hours after eating.

Personally I believe that both the trace elements and water are necessary for proper hydration which seems evident after reading the info at the links below and after viewing the video at link #5 in the list. However, there are other ways to get the trace elements. Two supplements that come to my mind are Sierrasil and Concentrace. Another way is simply by eating sufficient seafood everyday of your life [4 ounces for a person weighing 125 pounds]. Info on the seafood cure can be found at http://truehealth.org/abreakdx.html and http://truehealth.org/wholesto.html

A few years ago, my sister in law had a bout of depression and we kinda suspected chronic fatigue syndrome as well. Anyway she went on these herbal stress tablets Avenol from a pharmacy which did seem to help. She still takes it every now and then when she's feeling down and stress. It's got St Johns' wort and oats and some other herbs and vitamins in there as well.

Supplement therapy aims to restore a healthy immune system, so begin with vitamin C and carotenoids. A powerful immune enhancer, echinacea can be added to the mix; it can be alternated with the herbs astragalus, which has antiviral and immunity-enhancing effects, pau d'arco, which fights many microbes (especially the yeast infections so common in those with low immunity), or goldenseal. For muscle pain, use magnesium too.

Try behavioral counseling and relaxation techniques, such as hypnosis or meditation, to manage stress and treat any underlying depression.
Get a good night's sleep. If needed, use supplements for insomnia, such as valerian, melatonin, or 5-HTP.
Mild aerobic exercise may be excellent for chronic fatigue syndrome, according to a recent study in the British Medical Journal. After a 12-week program of walking, swimming, or biking from 5 to 30 minutes a day, 55% of CFS patients felt "much" or very much better. Relaxation and stretching exercises may also work. But start and proceed slowly: If you do too much, you may suffer a setback. It may help to keep an energy diary-to record peaks and ebbs of energy-and plan your schedule around the times you routinely feel the best.
