What is an appropriate $$$ an acupuncturist should charge?!

I worked for an acupuncturist for years and we charged $90 for an initial visit and $40-60 sliding scale after that. Insurance was billed at $75/visit and they paid about $49 of that. We operate in a small town so maybe your acupuncturist has more overhead (rent & other expenses to cover) but I have to say that sounds a bit much for a regular visit. For that price you should definitely get a super nice room to yourself for an hour with plenty of ambient music, a 15 min consultation, maybe a short massage... hope that helps!
phone around other places and ask for a quote, maybe?
I concur, ask around and see what the going rate is. Also, what is the level of expertise from that acupuncturist? In NYC area, it's common to see rates around $45-75 per visit for American trained acupuncturists, from an oriental medicine doctor trained from asia, it's not unheard of to see $125-200 per visit. I know some who charge even $400 a visit.
Have your friend poke you with a pen over your back while in a room with soothing music, and you'll have just about the same effectiveness of 'real' acupuncture.
