Is it necessary to undergo a dilatation & curettage after an anembryonic pre!

Question:

Is it necessary to undergo a dilatation & curettage after an anembryonic pregnacy?

I experience a spotting when I was about 1 mth preggy & the doc advise for a 2 weeks bed rest. An ultrasound after 2 weeks shows an empty egg sac. The doc suggested that I let the tissue come out naturally. Something solid came out but am not sure if its the tissue that the doc said or only blood clots. I had a menstrual-like flow for about 3 weeks now, no cramps, no pain. Is it necessary to undergo a D & C after this? If I chose not to, is it not harmful to my health & body?

Answers:

If everything is out then you will have no problems. If anything is left there is the possibility of sepsis or a hemorrhage when it does break loose.
After my 5th child, I retained some placenta and refused to undergo a D/C. When she was 8mo old, the retained portion came loose, and I bled profusely. I mean like huge running puddles came out almost like I was urinating blood. I did have to go ahead and have a D/C then to stop the bleeding. I was soaking through towels within minutes.
I don't know how large the mass left in your uterus is. But if you leave it to see if it does pass ok, just know that there is a chance that you will have some heavy bleeding when it does. If I had it to do over, I would still do it the same way and just wait to see if it passed naturally.
I can tell you that the D/C was nothing big. I slept a lot the day of procedure, but the next day I was up and about fine. I had no pain. I did not and would never have ablation with a D/C though. One of my friends did and got burned inside really badly. Please don't let them talk you into ablation.
I am so very sorry about the pregnancy. I know that was a child to you even if it didn't turn out that way. I am so very sorry. Take care of yourself. Be healthy and have a baby in the future. I pray God blesses you richly in everyway and gives you the desires of your heart.
