Why does my tongue peel when im on my period?!

Question: Why does my tongue peel when im on my period?
For years now every time im on my period my tongue peels and goes numb. Does anyone know why this is?

At first i thought it was a random once a month peel thing, but with my new pill i hadn't had a period for a year, and no tongue peel for a year either. Then yesterday i finally had a period and my tongue started to peel, so its definitely linked

Answers:

It's called a geographical tongue - I have it too and unfortunately there isn't much you can do about except avoid certain foods which can aggravate it (for me, it's citric/fruit juice and cheap baked beans!). It can be hormonally linked though, so if that's the trigger then you are probably stuck with it I am afraid. I only recently discovered it had a name though - it's quite interesting googling it and reading a bit more about it.

Maybe it is a hormone thing. A change in your hormones and chemical make up could cause plaque build up on your tongue or some type of weird yeast thing in your mouth.

Also if you had no period for a year I'm assuming you weren't on a standard birth control like the pill. If every time you are on the pill it does this it could be that you are allergic to something in the pills.

You should definitely bring this up to your doctor. It could be something serious.

You should see a doctor
