Mirena has hormones, so it may have the side effects of hormonal birth control!. Whoever told you that you have to be twenty five and have had children, however, is rather ill-informed!. I have a paraguard copper IUD(hormone free) and I got it because I cannot handle hormones, though I am 22 and have had a child, but you CAN get one without having had a child first, the only problem with that is that the insertion may hurt more and that you have a larger chance of expelling it, but if one doctor won't do it because of your age, trust me, someone out there will, MANY MANY women over 18 who have no children get them, it is pretty normal actually!. But if you have problems with hormones, I wouldn't even chance it with the mirena, it has the same hormones in it that the depo provera shot does!. Some women do not experience side effects with it while some do, it's a gamble really!. If you aren't comfortable with hormones DO NOT let a doctor talk you into getting a mirena!. They will tell you that the hormones are small and localized and that they wouldn't cause side effects but THIS IS NOT TRUE, they very well CAN cause side effects!. Good luck!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mirena does contain hormones, however, it may be less likely to affect your weight because the hormones stay more in your uterus rather than circulating throughout your body!. The OB GYN I work with places Mirena in patients younger than 25 routinely!. If your doctor says that you have to be over 25 you might want to try another OB GYN!.

There's another IUD, Paraguard, that does NOT contain hormones!. It lasts for 10 years as opposed to Mirena's 5!. However, heavier periods and cramping are more common with Paraguard than Mirena!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it's a device your gynie places inside your uterus!.
