Anyone use Paragard or Mirena IUD?!

Question: Anyone use Paragard or Mirena IUD!?
I'm not sure which one to pick!. I know the differences!. What are your experiences with the IUD!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I LOVE my IUD!. I got the Paragard (copper) one about a year ago, and it is SOOOO much better than being on the pill! I had a bunch of side effects on the pill--migraines & constant nausea!. I chose the copper IUD mostly because of my history with side effects of hormonal contraceptives (tried the ring, too-same problems) and because it lasts 10 years, over the Mirena's five!. Best part is, I don't even have to think about it! Not having to remember to take a pill every day is great!

Some drawbacks:
1!. Cramps are worse and periods are heavier, but things seem to be getting better as time goes on!.
2!. Puts you at higher risk for PID, and (obviously) doesn't protect against STDs like condoms!. IUD's are best if you're in a monogamous relationship!.
3!. One thing I really miss about the pill is the schedule!. I knew to the hour when I'd start my period, and I really liked being able to skip my period all together by not taking the last row of pills!. You don't get that kind of control with an IUD!.

Another plus: I was spending $35 a month for each pack of pills (insurance copay)!. The IUD wasn't covered by my insurance, and the device and insertion cost me about $600!. That is WAY less than I'd spend for 10 years of BCPs at $35 a month!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Er, I've already answered the question, but I guess I'll have a go at it again!.

I use Mirena!. It doesn't contain any copper!. I'd rather not have the copper in my body so Mirena, for me, was the better choice!. And I know that Mirena makes use of hormones, but I haven't experienced any dreadful (or even minor) side effects from said hormones!. No significant weight gain as a result of the IUD, no mood swings that aren't due to PMS, nothing out of the ordinary, really!.

Yep, I'd say Mirena was my first choice and I'm glad I went with it!.

[[edit]] What the other user said is true, very light periods!. In fact, a certain percentage of women stop having periods altogether!. This wouldn't be abnormal or worrisome!. Your doctor can explain that it's an expected side effect for a certain amount of IUD users!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have the mirena, which is so far pretty dang good! lol, the first few months i had spotting here and there, but that's about it!. No cramping, no weight gain or anything like that but i do get mood swings lol, my doctor ended up rcomending i take a certain medicaine for that but besides that everythings good!.!. Im not sure what the paragard is, lol, but if it is the copper one i highly recomend you NOT getting that one, my sister and a few friends have /had that and they all had tons of blleding all the time so most of them got it removed, i also heared that is worsens cramps!. So from experience and what ive heard i highly recomend the mirena!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most women I know choose the Mirena!. When I had mine I loved it!. I had very light periods and felt great, like I wasn't on birth control at all!.

Good luck with your decision!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
