I would suggest a woman doctor, if you are given the choice!. They are easier to talk to about personal things!. You will go into the exam room and they will give you a gown, which opens in the front!. You will take off all your clothes and put on the gown!. They will also give you a sheet - like on a bed!. You use this to lay across your waist during the exam!.
The doctor will talk to you first and get to know you!. She will then have you put your arms behind your head and she will do a breast exam!. Just look up at the ceiling, it only lasts about a minute!.
Then she will call a nurse into the room with you!. She will ask you to slide down closer to the bottom of the table and put your feet in the stirrups!. It is definitely embarassing but it really shouldn't be!. She will tell you that she is gonna touch you so your are not caught off guard!. '
She sticks a plastic 'opener' inside so she can see your cervix better!. She will put a long q-tip looking stick inside and scrape it on the inside for a culture!. It really doesn't hurt and I have never bled much - some times not at all!.
She does use some KY Jelly and that is probably the worst part as you wipe and wipe afterwards but it just seems to keep coming out! Just go straight home and take a shower - you will feel nice and clean!.

The one answer is great!. I'll just add, if the exam is uncomfortable, and especially since you'll be nervous, RELAX!.!. and take deep breaths!. Focus on relaxing your legs and the muscles down in your privates!. It will make everything more comfortable and let the doctor do her job faster!. It really does only last a minute!. My doctor did a pap smear!. And he checked my breasts for lumps as in breast cancer!.
A pap smear is when the doctor scrapes the side of the vagina with a little nail file or something like that!. It doesn't hurt much!. You will bleed for a while but it's not a heavy bleeding!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
