Why did my dr put me on birth control?!

Question: Why did my dr put me on birth control!?
i had my son in august 07 bleed for 4 weeks then started my period in november, then again in december and again in march and that was it!. june 6th will be 3 months with no period!. i went to my obgyn and he put me on ovcon 35 and said it will be strong enough to make me start!. well, i have been taking it every day at 10 a!.m!. and i have to go back july 28th to talk to him to see if it worked!. but, if it is just going to make me have a period and not ovulate, then my body will be dependent on the pill to make me start and i will not start on my own, right!? i had my hormones and thyroid tested that day also!. they have not called me back to let me know what my results were!. are they suppose to call me or just wait until i go back in 2 months!? if the pills make me start then when i go back, will he keep having me take them or can i stop- i dont really want to be on them i just felt really bloated and wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with me so when we do decide to have more kids,Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to ask your Dr why he put you on this medication!. it may be that he was thinking that if you took it for a short time then stopped it would jog your body back into a regular cycle!. Sounds a bit odd to me tho!. I would go back before your 2 month appointment to talk it thro with him and also to get the results of your blood tests!. it sounds as tho the medication is not agreeing with you anyway so that is a good reason to see the Dr again on its own!. I would have thought that an ovulation stimulating drug would be more appropriate but it may be that your Dr wants to see the results of your blood tests first!.
Also if you are breast feeding it is not unusual to have irregular periods due to the hormones in your system suppressing ovulation!. i had a similar problem after my 3rd baby and going on the pill did nothing to help altho i am probably older than you are now!. i was later diagnosed with polycystic ovaries which explained a lot!.!.but it doesnt mean you have this too!. it is probably just your body taking time to settle down after the birth of your son!. it can take up to a year for some people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless you are breastfeeding or pg again, you need to have a period!. Its how our bodies are designed to work!. The pill won't prevent you from having problems getting preggers again unless there were issues there to begin with, or if you took it so long that you went into menopause!. It might take longer, but it shouldn't prevent it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
