My teenage daughter has a spot on her vagina?!
Question: My teenage daughter has a spot on her vagina!?
She came to me desperately embarrassed, and told me that there was something she needed to show me, took me to the bathroom and, bright red, showed me what looked like a normal spot around the area where the pubic hair grows!. I mean, it looks normal, but she said her clothing was hurting her a lot because of the friction, and it was also sometimes itchy!.
I've given her some spot deflammation treatment, but I'm not sure whether to take her to the GP!. Is it normal!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

1) Taking your description I imagine a very small bright red spot which is slightly elevated, has circular clearly defined edges and a peaked center that is sensitive to the touch!. This is typical for either ingrown hairs, inflammated hair roots or similar pimples!. Such spots are typical to be sensitive to the friction of clothes and they are commonly known to itch sometimes!.
2) There is no reason to worry just because it is in the area of pubic hair!. Everywhere else you probably would ignore it!.!.!.
3) Only IF the friction is really annoying, try to cover it with a tiny circular band-aid, so it is more tolerable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You might want to be safe rather than sorry!. Has she talked to you about why she might have this!? It doesn't sound like an STI symptom (if your daughter is sexually active), but it could be perfectly normal, or the result of trying to shave/wax that area without proper care afterwards!. There are a lot of explanations, but I'd suggest getting it checked out just to be cautious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
If its where the hair grows, it is no the vagina, it is the vulva!. But you should know that already!.
Anyway, it may be an ingrown hair!. Or a sort of blemish, people may get these down in their croctch area!. It is not uncommon at all!. Wait a few days, see how it goes, if it gets worse, take her to the GP!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would take her to an ob/gyn not a GP!. She may have some type of skin inflammation!. Believe it or not, I have a small patch of eczema that itches, at times, like crazy!. A little cream helps tremendously!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My daughter had something like this, and she said it would come and go!. She was not sexually active, so we knew it wasn't an STD!. She was due for a trip to the OB/GYN, so we asked about it there and he looked at it!. He said it was nothing to be concerned about and was probably a boil or ingrown hair!.
This was a couple of years ago and she hasn't said any more about it!. If you are concerned, a trip to the doctor might be a good idea!. It's good for them to start seeing a gynecologist when they are about 16 just to get used to going!. My doctor doesn't do an exam until they are 18 unless they are sexually active, but he was good about talking to her about things and giving her an opportunity to ask questions without me present!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
