Ladies only: How painful is it to have an endometrial biopsy done?!

Question: I know anything going up into the uterus is painful. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain, but when I had an IUD inserted, you could have peeled me off the celing and mopped up the floor with my tears it was so painful.
Any feedback is appreciated. (I plan on taking at least 4 Advil and 1-2 xanex before the procedure...I hear it's painful, and I need to be prepared so I don't have an anxiety attack while it's being done.)

Yes its uncomfortable(it hurt me a little anyway) But I have a higher pain tolerance then you.( I had an IUD also.) With what your talking about taking will do you fine.I didn't hurt for long .Why don't you IM with me sometime so we can talk why we 're ending up with the same tests.I had my surgery in Dec07.

An IUD isn't supposed to be painful...you might want to check the condition of your uterus, and tell the doctor your concerns to see if theres something they can do during your biopsy.

There are a number of ways of doing endometrial biopsies; see the site that follows. Whether or not this will be painful for you is hard to predict, since everyone's experience is so different. You may have a high pain tolerance, but a really tiny, closed cervical opening, which would explain why you reacted so strongly to the IUD insertion. I would call the Ob/GYN, ask how exactly they are going to do it, and ask what they propose in terms of pain relief. If they don't offer anything, tell them what you plan to do, and ask if it's a problem. The doctor may offer you something else, e.g., vicodin.

I had a cone biopsy of the cervix done on the same day as I had an endometrial biopsy done. The cone biopsy was achy but not too bad, but the endometrial was extremely painful.

When I had it done there was both the doctor and the nurse there, and the nurse came up and said "Hold my hand, when it hurts just squeeze my hand." I scoffed, because I have a high pain threshold so I didn't think it would be bad.

It sucked so hard, it was awful To me it felt like I was being stabbed, I was also afraid I was going to either pass out or throw up it hurt so badly. My doctor is great and she tried to make it go as easily as possible but it was one of the most painful procedures I've ever had.

Thankfully it was over pretty fast but it was terrible. I hadn't taken any painkillers, though, so if you take them it might not be so bad. Good luck, take your pain pills, and hold the nurse's hand :]
