Why do men want to be gynecologists?!
Question: I know it's not for perverted reasons as some may suggest, and many male gyno's are really good. So what triggers them into this field of study?

Early in my training, I was working in a hospital in a support capacity. I knew that I was going to med school, and I really felt that I would be going to be a general surgeon, or perhaps a vascular surgeon.
But, I had the honor of seeing a few babies born, and I was able to share in the patients' joy at the event. When you see a new life arrive and then see it resting gently on its mothers' chest, while the proud father beams on, well... I was hooked.
And for me, I've always connected well on a personal level (and I mean personal, not a love relationship thing) with women. It seemed like a natural fit. I was lucky enough to get into an OBGyn internship and I've never looked back.
As I'm getting older, I am now slowing down the OB part of the practice. Late nights can wear one down. But, the lifetime relationships with my gyn patients have shown me that I absolutely made the right choice.
I have to tell you that it sometimes pains me when I hear things about how female gyns are inherently superior to males because of "like equipment" and such. I totally disagree. OK, I don't have a uterus, I don't have periods. But I humbly and yet fiercely assert that NOBODY cares more about their patients than I do. Nobody. :)

Curriosity, demand in the feild, pay rates, wanting to end "male pig" stereotypes?
The reasons mentioned above (excellent answer!) plus the hours---many doctors want the relative ease of a regular schedule.
Plus, many are ob/gyns and are in it as much for the obstetrics (babies!) as the gynecology. Pre-natal medicine is quite an interesting field no matter your sex.
