In 2004, the last year for such statistics, it was 13 per 100,000. This is a very low rate, but it is actually a bit higher than it was in previous years, perhaps due to more C-sections and older moms. Still, not much to worry about, fortunately.

If there is a chance of complications doctors will usually give the mother notice before hand.
In this day and age extremely low but I suppose it depends on what the complications are - it does still happen but thankfully not very often

It is SUPER SUPER low. I think if you were to do it naturally without drugs, there is a .000001% change you could have a stroke from all the stress, but the baby's head doesn't really get stuck anymore. Lots of times, the baby is the reason why there are complications - not the mother, so most people just choose to last minute abort so they don't die. But still, it's really really really really slim...I was worried about it too.
Very very slim anymore because now we have babies in a hospital -- it can happen but there are doctors there who can usually keep that from happening - for instance if you start bleeding really bad. It happened way back in the old days mostly because people would have babies at home -- some of whom should have had a C-section for instance but couldn't.....or if they bled too much and there were no doctors there to take care of that as it happens.
In America the chances are slim to none, they have the best technology today to make anything happen, heck I even heard of a woman who couldn't have kids, and her doctor took one of her sisters ovary's and implanted it inside of her and like a couple months later she was pregnant and had a healthy baby, modern medicine today is amazing!
