To take the birth control pill or not?!

Question: Weeks ago I told myself I was going to start the pill this month and I had a sample from Alesse. After looking on yahoo answers and the web about side effects I had a second thought. I don't want to be starting taking the pill while I'm going to be a lot stressed with the busy month with school and stuff. I prefer to wait for the next month when all of this will be over. I already took my first pill yesterday and i don't want to continue.

Am I taking a good decision of waiting when summer arrives to start taking it ? Will it change anything if i wait to this summer? This summer will be more relaxed and if I'm going to have side effects, it will not happen when I am all stressed.

I would definitly talk to your gyno about it.. There's so many different types to choose from, you know? And your doctor can give you a type that will fit -you-.

For me, I had hardly any side effects. I started off on Yaz, and it's promoted to be really good and "more than just birth control" is their slogan, I think. The only problem I had with it (besides that it was so expensive) was that the first day after I started a new pack, I was sick to my stomach all day. But after that, everything was fine.
I'm now on Lessina; it does its job just fine, and I'm not getting sick anymore.

With the stress you're dealing with: sometimes stress in itself is a natural birth control-- but still use some sort of protection. If you don't feel like starting the pill this month, don't. With a hectic schedule, you may forget to take the pill at all, and that wouldn't be a good thing. Plus if you do happen to have side effects, you definitly don't want them interfering with your school stuff.

If you want to wait till things slow down, that would probably be your best bet. Only thing is: birth control pills don't take effect immediately. Some take anywhere from 3 weeks to a month to become fully effective in your system. So if you're lookin to have a fun-filled summer (if you know what I mean), you'll have to wait a bit if you start the pills as soon as you get out of school. Maybe just wait 2 weeks before summer, when things are starting to slow down, and that'll get your body used to taking pills with extra hormones.

But once again, I say, talk to your gyno.

I think maybe you should wait. Starting the pill made me very hormonal and if your already stressed then it could just make it worse.

you can start it whenever you want. some people dont get any side effects at all, so its really not something to freak out about. Even the common ones that people get for the first three months like spotting and nausea are really mild. side effects have never added any stress to my life, personally. weight gain is not common and only a few pounds when it happens. if it doesnt go away in 3 months you might not be on the pill thats right for you and all you need to do is switch. think about it- those reviews you are reading online are from people upset about the side effects.. people are much more likely to complain online than go online just to say they are side effect free...
