When I was your daughter's age, I was really thin. My mom started pressuring me to eat more. Twenty years later, I'm still on the thin side, even though I eat normally, but I'm really sensitive to comments about my eating habits.

My advice is to keep an eye out for problems, and try to keep the channels of communication open with your daughter, but don't rush to judgement about her having a medical problem just because someone said she doesn't fit his/her idea of what's "normal." If she's not exhibiting signs of an eating disorder, and seems to have a healthy attitude about her body and eating, she may just have a high metabolism.

Here is an article I wrote about this very problem

She might eat well, but does she go to the bathroom a lot?
She could be bulimic

Often young girls are naturally skinny. Ask her about it. If she is eating normally though, maybe there is nothing to worry about. My aunt was around 5'5 when she was 13, and she was only something like 95 pounds. But, she ate like a horse.

Well I would say I was about 15 when I started trying to trick my Mom into thinking I was eating when I wasn't. But 13 is a bit harder she probably isn't able to tell you see ate when she was out with friends as I did.

Take it from me and from experience, watch her but don't let her know you are watching her. Mandate sit down dinners for the entire family just so you can watch her eat, and monitor her after she is done, again keep your distance so she doesn't know. If she even gets a hint that you are watching her, you will never find out. It is easier to hind then most think.

Now on the flip side she could just be a very active 13 year old that is hitting a growth spurt. But it is good of you to be worried and at least monitor just to be sure.

It is so sad how young these issues begin.

just being thin isnt a sign but;
secretive
insising on meals in her room or where you dont see her eat
going to the bathroom frequently
obsession about weight and excersise
thought many people with eating disorders are secretive and hide it well. be extra vigalant and try having a chat with her but bvecareful not to accuse her of anything

If she goes to the bathroom after every meal,you can be worried.But some young girls have good metabolisms. If your family is thin than its probably just good genes. Not every young girl has an eating disorder.
