Thinking of getting my tubes tied?!

Question: I want to get my tubes tied because I am very fertile and I'm am to old to have anymore babies. What are some facts that I should know? Does it make you tummy permanantly bulgy and/or does it make your vagina extra dry? These are some of the things that I heard. Any real or true facts? Serious answers please.

Tubal ligation is not as effective as most people think. After the first 5 years it is only 70% effective. I researched this because after my two were born, I didnt want any more. I brought home pamphlets and in the pamphlet for tubals it was in there. I know two people that got pregnant with a tubal. In one case, my friend got preggers after only 2 years and another was 6 years later. I opted for the Mirena IUC. Good luck with your decision.

i got sterilised a year ago because of having five children and being highly fertile 2. It is a quick n easy operation but not without risks as in every operation. It is very painful afterwards for few days. I have had no real problems apart from having stomach pains and real tender breasts two weeks before my period. But please make sure this is what u want for definite before going ahead with it.

I never had my tubes tied. But almost female I know has had it done. They have never complained of such things. I suggest you get it done if you are sure you don't want kids. My mother-in-law had a baby at 45 yrs old. She made the mistake of thinking she was too old to get prego! Wrong! If she could go back in time she probably would.

1) No doesn't make your tummy bulgy (bulge equals too much food/gas :-)
yr stomage will be swollen after procedure for a couple of days

2) Your tubes aren't tied to yr vagina and does not influence any natural excretion

Best advise is to always consult yr gynea

I was considering this too, but I decided to get an IUD instead, When discussing this w/my doc he explained that they make 2 small incisions & go in w/ a tube & do it. tou do have to be put under a general anesthesia and so you have the associated risks. the chances of getting pregnant are slim to none and if it does occur it is likely to be in a place where you would not be able to carry it. The IUD had almost the same rate of success w/the side effects being the possobility of rejection, wrong plscement (small chance),more cramping at periods. I can say you dont feel it in there, a little more beeding and cramping, some cramping when I didnt have my period. So far its all doable and really no complaints. The procedure was a little uncomfortable but not really a big deal. It was easier (for me) than being anesthetized. talk to your doc about it they will give you lots of info and answer specific concerns you may have. Also the IUD last for 10 years where they take it out and if needed put a new one in. Hope it helped and good luck.
