First exfoliate the area to make sure all the dead skin cells are removed and you can get the closest shave possible. Wash with an antibacterial soap (like dial) so that the bacteria that can cause ingrown hairs and razor bumps is gone. If this is your first time shaving down there, you might want to trim it up a bit with some scissors first, but be CAREFUL. Next, you want to lather on a rich shaving cream and leave it sit for a few minutes to really soften the hair. Here comes the shaving part. You have two options: Shaving against the direction of hair growth will give you a closer shave, but will increase the risk of getting razor bumps afterwards. Shaving in the direction of hair growth will give you a less close shave, but will probably be less likely to give you razor burn. The decision is yours. Either way, make sure yo do not keep shaving over the same area more than once, this will definitely give you the very painful razor burn afterwards. After your shower, you should use a product like Tendskin, (can be bought at any beauty store). This will definitely keep you from getting ingrown hairs and razor burn. Remember to exfoliate often to remove dead skin cells (which cause the hair to get trapped underneath the skin) and you should be fine!

try nare

brazilian wax job

I'll do it. I shave my face all the time and don't have the problem. I'm sure the same principles apply.

Nare or wax

WAX?

Use a hair removal gel for sensitive areas...much cleaner and less irritation than shaving or waxing

Well, after cleaning mine up a bit, it got little red bumps. Ah, they itch a lot, I wouldn't do it. Try Nair! It's easy and clean, I wish I could but my mother won't let me.

If you're not completely sure and you're willing to spend some money, go get it done by your local salon. They probably do bikini waxes there.

You're kidding yourself. It's not going to happen the way you want, sorry dear. I did this once, or shall I say I let my lover do it in the shower. Worst thing I have ever done in my life. Never again. You couldn't pay me to do it again. The itching of the hair growing back in was about enough to drive me out of my mind. PERMANENTLY!

Use extra caution when shaving this area even though it is highly unrecommended. Make sure to use a lot of shaving gel, and do not leave it on long or you could get an infection. This is actually too delicate of an area to be shaving and it would be quite scary if you cut yourself there! I wish you luck on it. I am sure it looks fine and natural as it is. I'm sure your bf doesn't care how it looks!

dont shave as it will be itchy.... try u own wax or go get it properly waxed then do it urself afterwards otherwise use nare (nare is a cream that u apply and removes hair) make sure u read instructions first as some of the nare products dont allow u to remove hair from 'down there'

best of luck

Girl, you need to WAX!!! If you shave you are going to be very uncomfortable and it will be worse than it probably is now.

Do not shave, trim or wax. Trust me, and I know I'm a male. That makes no difference, we still have folds that will rub against itself and cause irritation and small pimple of ingrown hairs. I trim and it looks good and no irritation at all.

why were the first 5 ppl to answer this guys?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
They will grow back thicker and darker than before!!!!!!!!!

Yes...regrowth from shaving will be itchy...and that's NOT an area you want to walk around scratching!!! Honestly waxing is the best...depilatory creams are messy, take too long...and the results aren't as good, and don't last as long as waxing. If you have the $$ and the pain threshold...go for the wax.

***I thought it was funny that the first few answers were from guys too. But hey...you can't knock someone for trying to help :)

I found that the more I shaved the less bumps I got eventually, also try using talc on the area after.

LOL to Kj's answer.

I was thinking the very same thing.

Go to the drug store and get:

- A new razor
- A lotion-based shave cream like "BikiniZone" or order Coochie Cream from Amazon.
- Bikini area lotion or un-scented, sugar free hand lotion

Go home and:

- Trim with scissors as much as possible.
- Take a hot shower/bath to soften the hair up.
- Apply shave cream with left hand keeping the right clean to wield the razor.
- Reach down and smooth the skin to present a flat surface. Try to go over each area maximum of 2 times.
- After rinsing, apply lotion to the shaved area immediately. Do it again 12 hours later and the next day

The lotion-based cream and after-shave lotion are the 2 big secrets to preventing razor burn.

ICE!!! Its cold but works!! I hated this too...but I like to be clean shaven. Rubbing ice on the areas where you shaved closes up the pores and prevents oils going into the follicles which creates the bumps. Also, shave there every day. Even if it dont need it. Just run the razor over it quickly and keep it smooth. The bumps will stop coming. Seriously though...try the ice and the repeated shavings and you will not get those bumps!!!
