I had gestational diabetes with both my kids. My son was full term at 7lbs 6oz and my daughter was born at 38 weeks and she weighed 7lbs 4oz. I stuck to a strict diet to ensure that my children would not be huge babies. I dont think that doctors can really determine exact weight by ultrasound because when I had an ultrasound with my daughter at 36 weeks they determined that she was over 8lbs. But she wasn't. So dont stress. It doesnt sound like your baby is too big at 31 weeks. Congrats by the way!!!

I am not really sure how heavy a baby should weigh around 34-36 weekd.... but I think that weight is ok.... my girl was 6 pound 3 ounces when she was "born" and i thought that was tiny but it was a normal weight... and my sisters first born was 9 pound 4 ouces and this also was a normal weight...

so your baby isnt too far form being a healthy birthing weight...

the last few weeks is when the baby should be putting on the most weight of all of the pregnancy... so good luck and best wishes for a healty safe birth and baby...

If you are controlling your sugar levels properly either by diet or with insulin, then your gestational diabetes shouldn't have a great effect on the birthweight of your child. With all three of my children I had gestational diabetes. The first was easily controlled through diet alone and he weighed 6 lb 11 oz. The next two required insulin and even then they never really could control it properly. They weighed 9 lb 13 oz and 10 lb 1 oz respectively. I had all my children 1-3 weeks early .

It sounds like the weight of youur baby is probably about right...keep in mind they gain weight very rapidly in the last few weeks.

Congrats!
