Why did my iud hurt so bad? curved cervix?!

Question: so i got my iud put in today. i've never had kids before; it so painful. i always thought i had a high pain threshold, but apparently i was kidding myself. and i cramped so bad for a couple hours..now it's just mild. is this a sign of more probems to come? she said it was hard to put in b/c i have a curved something, i think cervix. what does that mean? will it affect me when i have kids, or it's just curved? eek....no one else seemed to have such a bad time, but i cried out in pain. ah also, what's your experience w/ iud and your period?

Hey, I just got my in on the 23rd. I was the same way, It hurt so bad. I have not had kids either. the thing that holds ur cervix, hurt the most. I got the merina. I had mildled cramping. Then there are somedays there are nothing. I have not had my peroid yet so I can help you there sorry. I hope you are feeling alittle better.

I had my IUD inserted in October. I haven't had kids yet either. My doctor did a pap smear at the same time and the only reason I could tell the difference between that and inserting the device was because my doctor always told me what she was doing. I had some mild cramping the rest of the day, but took Advil and was fine. Whatever your doctor mentioned about your cervix is probably what caused more pain rather than just some pressure. If you're concerned about what problems this could cause later, the best thing to do is talk to your doctor to get a better explanation of the problem and how it might affect you.

As for my experience with my IUD, I have the Paraguard which is copper based. Supposedly it can cause heavier, more painful periods, but so far I haven't had any problems. My doctor said that the best thing to do is take Advil. I've only had the IUD since October, but it's turning out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
