Period Help (Women only)?!

Question: Okay I use pads but I hate them and want to switch to tampons. Is there anything I need to know about them? When do I switch them out? or How can I tell I need to switch? Do they work better?

PS: If anyone wants to be immature don't bother to answer this question.

ok tampons are great much better than pads!! first of all your going to need to find out what tampon is right for you so go to the drug store and get a few different types i suggest tampax pearl and playtex sport. get the multipax for tampax pearl and just get regular absorbency for playtex sport. try them out during your period never leave a tampon in for more that 8 hours. when u firts use one try a regular absorbency and leave it in for about 6 hours then take it out if blood covers most of the tampon than this is a good absorbency for you if blood covers about half of the tampon or less try using a light absorbency and if blood has covered all of the tampon and the string try using a super absorbency or changing a regular more often!! hope i helped

You have to change them a lot more often because of bacteria...Every 5-8 hours I think. As far as working better, it depends on the kind you use and you yourself.

Tampons come with instructions. There are some diagrams on them as well to help you with the first time you use a tampon. Knowing when to switch your tampon for a new one is pretty obvious. The longest you should leave one in for is 8 hours, however, you usually need to change it before then. It all depends on how heavy/light your flow is. Knowing when to switch will be fairly obvious. And yes, they work better, because you don't have to sit in it all day. They are much cleaner. Don't be scared, it isnt too tricky, and you'll get the hang of it. I recommend the ones with the plastic applicator. they are much more comfortable! Good Luck!

They are generally cleaner and more comfortable (and you can shower and bathe while wearing them), but when they are full, you have no choice but to change them. Otherwise they'll start slipping out (which is a very uncomfortable feeling), or leaking. I used to say, "Hell hath no wrath like a tampon scorned!"

If you think you might run that risk on certain occasions (like you might not be able to have access to a bathroom to change it), wear a pad as well, for double protection.

It's hard to say when to change them, because that depends on a number of factors: whether your flow is heavy or light, etc. You can use different strength tampons throughout your cycle. You also shouldn't insert one until your period has definitely started, because it can be bothersome if you are dry (and at that point, you wouldn't know if and when you start, either). In any case, practice makes perfect. :-)

I may be the minority here but I do not like tampons! I will say that as far as being 'out' as in, at school or work they are great but for just being at home I'd much rather be in a pad! Since I am a stay home mom I don't use tampons often but I do use them when I'm going somewhere. It's much easier then because you don't have to worry about things moving around or leaking. Although I still use a pantyliner when I'm wearing a tampon out, just in case. I wore them a lot more when I was in high school and college than I do now. It is a strange feeling at first but it doesn't hurt. Like the others have said the box says no more than 8 hours but I would say no longer than 4 or 5, And I wouldn't sleep in them at all. If you have an active lifestyle I'm sure they will be great for you.
