Abnormal pap smear- cells of undetermined significance. How worried should I be?!

Question: The results came in for my pap smear and it said that I have cells of undertermined significance, and I need to come and get another one in 3 months. My last 3 have been normal. Should I be worried about this? I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has had this result or knows someone that had this result on a pap smear. I am 20 years old and I have only been with one person and we've been together for the last 4 years so I shouldn't have any type of STDs.

A friend of mine was told that almost 30 years ago, so she would have been close to your age, and nothing came of it. Every pap smear after that indicated she was healthy. Try to relax. You are probably fine too. (Thank God we have these tests! Unimaginable that once upon a time we merely got ill and died!)

If your others have been normal, don't worry. Just keep your next appointment. It will probably be normal again. If not, your doctor will tell you what it may or may not mean and recommend from there.

before you panic it might not nessecerily be an std... I would take a deep breath and just keep going to your appointments... And maybe get an appointment at a different clinic with a different doctor to run the test over for a second opinion.
