why can't I measure my pupillary distance by taking a picture?!

Question: Why can't I measure my pupillary distance by taking a picture?
so i asked another question earlier, most of you suggested to ask a person to do it for me.

but why bother, if i take a picture with a ruler right under my eyes, won't that be the same thing as if someone else is looking in front of me?

and i took several pics, i got the same result by 1 mm difference.

Answers:

One thing to watch out for by doing it yourself that way , is that if the camera was within 16 inches or so, and you were looking straight at it, then you would be converging , so if you are, then you need to add another 3mm to the total for distance PD

Also , measure from inside edge of one pupil, to the outside of the other. It is easier and more accurate than trying to determine the actual center of the pupil. Like this : O} v O}...make sense ?

EDIT ****

He said the ruler is in the pic also, so the scale will work. He just has to count the millimeters he sees there

You can't do that because the picture is not scale properly.

Two things:
1. If your prescription is mild then your PD does not have to be as accurately as if your prescription is strong.
2. You can use our PD Doc as a guideline:

When you print our ruler make sure the Adobe Reader Magnification is set to 100%.
