What's wrong with me?!

Question: What's wrong with me?
This has been happening for years now but is getting worse overtime but I would like to know what is causing it. Its a weird feeling and hard to describe it but I'll try. I can't focus my eyes. The way I see things is almost as if I'm in a dream. I'm also so tired all the time. I can sleep til 10 am and them at 5 pm I'm ready to go back to bed. I have tried to talked to a nurse about this and they told me that it's depression and anxiety because the feeling tends to get worst when I'm at work or school. Places I really have to concentrate or get nervous at. I was discouraged by my mother to seek help for this because she told me that it will go on your record as a mental illness or disability and that more than likely they're going to put you on a bunch of medications to leave you like a vegetable with no emotion. I've also heard of this being a vitamin b12 deficiency.

What's wrong with me?
What can I do to fix it?

I don't think there is anything wrong with your eyesight. Mentioning that staying awake longer than 6 hours is a struggle and even then feeling sleepy sounds more serious than poor eyesight. Be thankful that you can pick up problems such as bad eyesight. You are able to know the existence of problems from that that.

I personally agree with your mother. The reason why drugs are given out to so many kids is laziness to look at cause of a problem. (sometimes very basic) and even adding drugs to their lives won't make a difference once the child is off the treatment again.(nothing fundamental would have changed).

Being very sleepy is a condition not that rare. There was a girl in our school who couldn't attend most of the time because of her sleeping disorder/illness. However I don't think your situation is as bad as hers.

There's no harm in getting an opinion but every doctor will have his/her own opinion. I would say if they generally don't know what is the cause then try alternatives or various specialists. Try watching or reading up disorders online to see if something stands out as worthwhile investigating.

Something like a curiosity in vitamin b is easily tried out by purchasing a product from a store. Try it for long enough and you will KNOW if you feel any different. However be careful not to overdose on the stuff. There's only a certain amount the body needs.

Firstly I think you already know that you need to see someone who can help you with this, it won't just go away.

It may have some roots in anxiety but it is certainly worth further investigation. My advice would be to see a doctor rather than a nurse this time.

While I am sure your mother had your best interests in mind, I don't think that statement was especially helpful - its not true at any rate. If it is something as simple as a vitamin deficiency you will kick yourself for not going sooner and getting some vitamin shots!

If you do need some medication to help you then take it - you aren't crazy, loopy, deranged or whatever so you won't be doped up to oblivion.

You would be surprised how many people just need something to either calm the nerves, help with motivation or whatever!

Please see a doctor and explain your concerns and symptoms.

I wish you all the best.

I'm afraid your Mom is not giving you the best advice. First off, in the USA, no one has access to your medical records except your doctors or on as a need to know basis like a hospital. Your employer or future employer, your school, your siblings, your parents, or anyone else have no right to view those records without your written consent or the written consent of your parent if you are a minor. That is law.

Also, emotional and/or mental problems no longer carry the stigma it did years ago. Most intelligent and educated people know this. You do need to see mental health professional in order to get your life back on track. Living with depression and anxiety is debilitating and exhausting. I'd certainly rather take a pill a day, then be miserable. Just being able to express your feelings to a professional and possibly finding out what is making you suffer depression and anxiety might be all you need to feel better.

If you want to eliminate vitamin deficiency as a cause, make an appointment with your medical doctor for a comprehensive physical exam, which includes blood work. You really ought to do this anyway, just to rule out any medical problems.
