Optometrist/ophthalmologist puzzled?!
Question: Optometrist/ophthalmologist puzzled?
Answers:
Your 9 year old is growing at a fast rate and may not be able to see 20/20 or be refracted to 20/20 until he/she is out of the growth spurt. I suggest sitting close to the board and letting nature take it's course. Don't worry Mom !
I am a Licensed Optician and experience is my reference
Since 3 doctors have seen your child, it seems unlikely that there is any obvious pathology. Auto refractors have all but eliminated the chance that they could all be that poor at refracting your child in a conventional way. I think the links below explain the most likely possibility. You have not been given this diagnosis because either it is so weird that your doctors don't think it happens (In my small practice, I see several a year) or they can't figure out how to explain it without sounding like you kid is nuts or misbehaving. He is neither.

optometrist
There could be something else going on related to the retina, cornea or optic nerve, in which case she should see an pediatric ophthalmologist who specializes in those. Ask your ophthalmologist who he would recommend in your area if he feels this could be affecting her eyesight.
