I want to get contacts?!

Question: I want to get contacts?
I recently had my eyes examined and, I did not go to my follow up eye appointment. I have glasses and I want to get contacts. My friend told me that there is a limited amount of time to get contacts after you have your eye exam? Do I have to get another eye exam in order to get contacts? Also, I'd like to get colored contacts do they make those in prescription for an astigmatism? If so where can I get them?
Kind regards,

Your eye doctor should be able to answer all those questions. Yes, you must have an eye exam in order to determine what your current vision is AT THAT TIME. Then, he/she can determine whether you are allowed to get contacts or not (I think you need a power of at least -2.0 or higher).

My friend went to the eye doctor to get colored contacts and she has astigmatism. There are special colored contacts for that condition so you'll be fine. Just make sure to tell your doctor you have it so he/she can find the perfect brand for you.

They might also have some trial contacts for you to try on so you can figure out what color looks the best on you.

Good luck! :)

If you want to be fitted and prescribed contacts you should tell the techs at the beginning of your visit to the optometrist. Glasses and contacts prescriptions are not interchangeable, so you will need to be specific of what you want. Call your eye doctor to see if you need another appointment. Your friend may have meant that you have a certain amount of time to order your contacts, because the prescriptions expire, usually after one year.

You can get toric lenses (for astigmatism) in colors. Order through your doctors office or online.

contact perscriptions are normally valid for a period of at least 6 months , possibly more. Ask your optician. With astigmatism you have very little choice for coloured lenses and its quite likely they may not be available in your perscription.

Coloured lenses dont' come in quite such good materials as other lenses either so if you want length and comfort of wear you might be better of forgetting about having them coloured.
