They squint because looking through a smaller hole reduces the blur when the view is out of focus!. This works very effectively as long as there is enough light!. This is a way used sometimes by ophthalmologists for checking if a person may require glasses - if they can read the chart better through a pinhole then they probably need them!.

People over 45 do it because the lens in the eyes has started to harden making it hard to see small things!. Squinting does something to the light waves or something and it makes it clearer and easier to read!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
squinting puts pressure on the lens of the eye, adjusting it, so that the eye receives the image in a better angle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
