Depends how big it is! You can see something big, like the moon, from a lot farther away than you can see something small, like a penny!. This all comes down to something called the visual angle, or the minimum angle of resolution!. There can be a lot of math and trigonometry involved, but basically, as long as something fills up enough space that it's big enough, you'll be able to see it!. An 'average' person who can see 20/20 can see something that's "one minute of visual angle", or one sixtieth of a degree!.
So if you're talking distance, think of the biggest thing you can, then figure out how far away it is!. If you're looking for other limits on the human visual system, look up "visual acuity" and "visual angle" for a more detailed explanation, and "hyperacuity" for an interesting phenomenon where people can see even smaller things!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
